The Opportunity

The Department of Psychiatry are looking for a passionate and dedicated Biostatistician to support the operations of Translational Molecular Psychiatry and Behavioural Neuroscience Laboratories. The Research Fellow will conduct statistical analyses in consultation with research staff; provide statistics guidance and research design support to the group (including students); and create datasets for statistical analysis.

The Department’s key initiatives involve prospective genomic studies, cohort studies, clinical studies, meta-analyses, and consortia focused on: understanding of the development of psychiatric disorders, understanding of signalling/regulatory networks that influence psychiatric disorder progression and treatment outcomes and validating biomarkers to improve psychiatric disorder prediction and diagnosis. 

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline (i.e., biostatistics or equivalent qualifications in health services research or epidemiology) or a closely related field
  • A track record of refereed research publications, using advanced statistical analysis (including biostatistical techniques)
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to supervise, mentor and support the development of research staff and postgraduate students
  • Excellent bioinformatic skills relating to genomic and expression data analysis and other ‘omics’ data types

This role is a part-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
