Research Fellow/Assistant – LC DC Circuit Breaker Opportunity Qualification

This post is for a Research Fellow/Assistant who will take a leading technical role in the LC DC Circuit Breaker Opportunity Qualification project. The researcher will be based at Aberdeen HVDC research centre. The team on the project includes principal investigator, technical lead (research fellow), technician, commercialisation champion and knowledge transfer officer.

This project aims at developing a plan for commercialisation of LC DC Circuit Breaker. The project objectives are:

  • To engage with users, and understand customer performance expectations
  • To arrange manufacture of a key commercial-grade component and perform tests to user specifications
  • Establish firm IP position and IP strategy
  • To assess feasibility of spin out company
  • To develop a business plan and engage with potential investors

The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field. 

Individuals in the final stages of completing their PhD or exceptional candidates without a PhD and with extensive research experience will be considered for a Research Assistant position (Grade 5). 

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£35,333 to £37,474 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience. Candidates without confirmed PhD will be considered for Grade 5, (£29,619 to £33,314 per annum). 

As the post is funded by Scottish Enterprise, it will be available for a period of 8 months period, or until 12 August (whatever comes first). 

Should you require a visa to undertake employment in the UK you will be required to fulfil the minimum points criteria to be granted a Certificate of Sponsorship under the requirements of the Skilled Worker visa.  At the time an offer of appointment is made, you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of qualification and competency in English.
