Salary package: $103,841 to $117,736 per annum plus 17% superannuation

The Global Commission of the Economics of Water is an independent panel of experts supported by the Dutch Enterprise Agency. The Global Commission’s ambition is to be the ‘third leg’ of global governance change that, to date, has included the 2006 Stern Review on Climate Change and the 2021 Dasgputa Review on Biodiversity. The Global Commission’s goal is to shift the conceptual framework on the economics of water, to go beyond traditional economic thinking, to test new ground for policy making, to ignite transformational change and to be genuinely global in its outreach and impacts.
The Opportunity
The Crawford School of Public Policy is seeking to appoint an outstanding early-career academic (with a PhD or who is about to graduate with a PhD) to contribute to the Global Commission on Economics of Water. The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise and international experience in water-related research, ideally in water risks and governance, in either the humanities or the social sciences and be willing to be part of a dynamic, collaborative, interdisciplinary team in support of water justice.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate should have a PhD in water-related discipline(s) or cognate discipline with a record of independent research in the field of water as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and research grants or awards. The successful candidate must have international experience in the water sector, especially in relation to water justice, water risks, water governance and community engagement. The preferred candidate should also have the potential to undertake curriculum and program development, deliver quality teaching, and to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The ideal applicant must excellent capacity for collaborative research, community water-related research and capacity-building, and a strong desire to ensure that their research has public policy impact. Demonstrated expertise to effectively work in water-related research at a community level and to promote water justice is essential. The start date for the position is negotiable but is intended to be no later than 1 January 2023.
