Summary

A post-doctoral research fellow position is available in the Moon lab within the resource-rich Center for RNA Biomedicine and Department of Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented, and conscientious individual with a growth mindset who will lead a project on the molecular mechanisms of aging and genetic neurodegenerative diseases. The research fellow will learn how to create human cell culture systems to detect and analyze RNA behavior using state-of-the-art fluorescence microscopy and RNA biology approaches. The research fellow will also be immersed within an international group of scientists in the CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network where they will have access to specialized career development and scientific training opportunities. This appointment is fully funded and is for an initial one year with potential for renewal. Who We Are

The Department of Human Genetics (DHG) at Michigan Medicine is recognized as the first dedicated human genetics department in the United States.  The DHG is one of nine basic science departments in the Medical School with primary missions of teaching and research devoted to advancing the fields of genetics and genomics to further our understanding of biology and human disease.  We enjoy social functions as a Department including a yearly department picnic and a yearly department retreat.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • Strong foundation in molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture
  • Strong internal motivation to learn one or more programming languages for data analysis (such as python, matlab, or R)
  • Tenacious, engaged, determined, resourceful, organized, and action-biased

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience, or working knowledge of, one or more programming languages for data analysis (such as python, matlab, or R)
  • Experience with live cell microscopy / image analysis
  • Experience with bioinformatic analysis and iPSC maintenance/differentiation
  • Experience with CRISPR engineering (HDR gene tagging, prime/base editing)
