Full time 36.5 hours / Fixed Term contract – End date:  31st January 2024 with potential for an extension

The Centre for E-Mobility and Clean Growth is looking for a Research Fellow to work as part of a team delivering a Horizon2020 project. This role will support an ambitious research initiative with multiple international partners, focused on producing smart & highly efficient Li-ion battery systems. Particular contribution will be required on advanced battery diagnostics for performance mapping / rapid charging and novel thermodynamic / electrochemical monitoring methodologies development, e.g. temperature sensors and reference electrodes.

You should have or be near obtaining a PhD in Materials, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, and be able to demonstrate relevant expertise in the area of advanced battery diagnostics and various sensors applications. If successful, you will join a quickly growing research centre with high levels of industry engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for you to significantly expand your technical research skills within the strategically important area of cell sensing and performance mapping, which in turn will be used for supporting industrially relevant battery system-level diagnostics.

Under the line management supervision and guidance of Dr Tazdin Amietszajew, and in close collaboration with project partners, you will contribute to research and consultancy activity, and prepare reports and deliverables within the project. In addition, you will gain valuable exposure to the Centre’s research, including the submission of funding bids with support from your line manager. In return, we will provide you with a great range of benefits, which include an attractive pension scheme, a very generous holiday allowance, savings on a wide range of products and services, and excellent learning and development opportunities.

This will be a fixed-term contract. The salary will be commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should include a CV and a summary of relevant research experience with their application.

E-Mobility research takes place in the Centre for Advanced Low-carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS), a £50m research centre established to partner with the propulsion system supply chain and accelerate the progression to carbon-zero transport. The Centre works across the automotive, aerospace, marine and rail industries to support the creation of cleaner mobility and to help develop the supply chain so that it can deliver these rapidly developing ‘enabling’ technologies.
