The Opportunity

The Research Fellow will carry out independent and team research across projects that have focus on the modelling and analysis of novel health-related datasets, and translation of those findings into advice for policy makers.

The Research Fellow will support the achievement of research outcomes by undertaking a range of research tasks including data cleaning, analysis, modelling, interpretation and preparing results within research objectives, timeframes and protocols. The role will attend meetings associated with the research and may occasionally contribute to teaching in relation to their research projects. The Research Fellow may have the opportunity to attend conferences and seminars and will engage in producing publications and papers from their research.

The position is part of a collaborative project funded by an NHMRC project grant. The project will analyse linked Victorian patient admission datasets with existing and prospectively collected genomic microbiologic data through applying network analysis and modelling methods to characterise and simulate intra- and inter-hospital patient movement networks. As part of the research team, you will help to describe the role of shared patient populations as ‘bridges’ between hospitals via which AMR can spread and explore how a detailed understanding of these networks can translate to efficient and effective policy decisions.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification in one of the following areas: mathematics, statistics, data science, physics, computer science, theoretical biology/ecology, epidemiology or a similarly quantitative discipline. Strong statistical analysis or mathematical modelling skills are required for success in this role. The successful candidate will have knowledge of a statistical programming language (preferably R), experience with data processing and the ability to work under pressure.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
