The Department of Global Health and Development (GHD) focuses on novel and policy-relevant research and training to achieve impact at national and global levels. Our work, predominantly concerning low and middle-income countries, spans health policy and systems research, economic evaluation, gender violence and violence in childhood, and medical humanitarianism. The Department is seeking a motivated and experienced Research Fellow to join a research team to work on novel health policy and systems research on how to improve the quality of healthcare provided by private doctors in Pakistan. This research, led by Associate Professor Mishal Khan, is run jointly by the Aga Khan University (AKU) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

The successful candidate will contribute to several aspects of the research programme, including analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, writing of peer-reviewed publications and other research outputs, planning policy-maker engagement activities, as well as project management across teams in LSHTM and AKU. The post-holder must have experience in conducting research in low- and/or middle-income countries, ideally in Asia, and in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. Equally important, the post-holder will be a natural team-player with excellent communication, attention to detail, writing and interpersonal skills. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full time and fixed-term until 28 February 2024 and is available from 1 October 2022. The post is funded by Health Systems Research Initiative (HSRI), which is in turn jointly funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Wellcome Trust.

The salary will be on the Academic pathways Grade 6 in the range £41,829 – £47,503 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
