About the Centre for Youth Mental Health
In January 2009 the University of Melbourne established a new Centre for Youth Mental Health (CYMH) within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences, where the academic and professional staff who are provided to Orygen are now based.  All NHMRC and ARC Grants to be used for Orygen activities are managed within CYMH. 

The creation of this academic and administrative structure reflects the multidisciplinary nature of this field of inquiry and knowledge, and its growing scientific and practical breadth and significance. This is only the fourth such supra-departmental structure to be created in the Faculty and there is no parallel to date anywhere else in Australia.

The Chair of the Centre for Youth Mental Health is Professor Patrick McGorry. Reporting arrangements are through the University of Melbourne structure with a direct report to Professor Jane Gunn, Dean of the Faculty.

About the Role
The Research Fellow will conduct data analyses of existing datasets (e.g., big data through the ENIGMA major depressive disorder (MDD) and ENIGMA suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB) consortia, and local datasets including on digital phenotyping and treatment studies; depending on the Research Fellow’s interests and background/skills). The Research Fellow will also help set up and manage a newly funded large cohort study examining the longitudinal course of depression and anxiety in young people.

Responsibilities include:

• Make a leading contribution to the conduct of research studies within the mood and anxiety disorders program, including analysis of clinical, cognitive, genetic, neuroimaging, and/or biological data and setting up new research projects
• Produce high quality scientific publications based on research findings from the program
• Actively participate in community and professional activities including research seminars and conferences
• Undertake administrative, monitoring and reporting functions as required by research funders

About You
Your demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills allow you to perform effective research collaboration and engagement. Your organisational and time management skills have given you the ability to organise your own time and that of others, prioritising tasks and achieving project outcomes.

You will also have:

• A PhD or substantial progress towards PhD in relevant area
• Strong evidence of ability and desire to build an academic career trajectory
• Demonstrated independent and/or team-based research in youth mental health
• The ability to apply research methodologies and quantitative/qualitative data analysis
