Research Fellow

An enthusiastic and skilled research fellow is sought to work within Professor Lora Heisler’s and Dr Sergiy Sylantyev’s research group in the Rowett Institute, University of Aberdeen.  The overall aim of Professor Heisler’s and Dr Sylantyev’s research programmes is to investigate the basic neurophysiology of appetite, body weight, and insulin action by examining the neurocircuitry of neurotransmitter and neuropeptide systems with the aim of improving metabolic health.

The Research Fellow position is ideally suited to experienced, highly motivated post-doctoral fellows committed to a career of research, providing consistent and continuous high level intellectual and practical input to a dynamic research group. You will have a PhD in a relevant area with experience in obesity or diabetes research and evidence of results published in peer-reviewed journals.  Particular skills and experience required include stereotaxic surgery, molecular biology, histochemistry and in vivo metabolic phenotyping.

The overall aim of the research is to characterise a brain circuit controlling hunger, food intake, food choice and body weight. The research will focus on performing metabolic phenotypic tests following gene and cell manipulations in homeostatic brain regions and circuits.  The Research Fellow will work to a tight timeline to achieve the milestones, both independently and as member of a team within the project. The post requires an individual with excellent organisational and practical skills, as well as the ability to work within a research team.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£35,333 – £39,745 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.

As this post is funded by the BBSRC it will be offered for a period of 30 months.
