The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. The Department of Medical Statistics seeks to appoint a statistician to work on a programme of research concerning statistical methodology of recurrent events analysis in major clinical trials aiming to identify best practice in order to improve the design and reporting of future trials. Applications focus on CVD. This position is funded by Astra-Zeneca, which facilitates collaboration with their statisticians and access to relevant clinical trial databases.  

An aptitude for methodological research and its application in real trials is required and good communication skills and statistical programming experience (e.g. SAS, R) are key.  A PhD in statistics or equivalent is essential and past experience of clinical trials/ methodological research is desirable. Some teaching of post-graduate students will also be required. Further particulars are included in the job description. 

The post is full-time and funded by Astra Zeneca for an initial period of 2 years with the possibility of extension and available immediately. The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 in the range of £41,829 – £47,503 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
