Do you have a strong background in cell and molecular biology? Would you like to investigate and manipulate cellular signalling, with a view to improving cancer outcomes?

The Hughes group (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Thomas-Hughes https://medicinehealth.leeds.ac.uk/medicine/staff/452/dr-thomas-a-hughes ) has a strong track-record of translational cancer research, especially in the field of breast cancer. We now have an opportunity, funded by Breast Cancer Now, for an enthusiastic researcher to join the group to advance a novel approach for improving chemotherapy responses in breast cancer.  We have identified one of the ways by which some breast cancer cells become resistant to chemotherapy – by receiving signals from stromal cancer associated fibroblasts that drive chemoresistance [see Broad et al (2021) Brit J Cancer 124, 1110–20]. We now aim to develop and validate therapeutic approaches to inhibit this stromal-induced resistance.
