Research Fellow

The Pitt Rivers Museum is seeking to recruit an exceptional post-doctoral researcher to a three-year Research Fellowship to work on the extensive photograph collection of Sir Wilfred Thesiger in the Gulf Cooperation Countries region. The Fellow will carry out and publish independent research on the history and cultures of the Middle East as represented in the collection. The Fellow will work closely with partners at the UAE National Archives on outcomes, including curated web content. They will also be expected to develop ideas for new funded research projects and collaborations. The post holder will be expected to organise or present papers at conferences and join the Museum’s research team at museum meetings as well as externally, for instance within existing research networks and project partnerships. The post holder will deliver some Public Engagement with Research activities in the Museum in relation to the research.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences, have spoken and written proficiency in Arabic, as well as demonstrable knowledge of the histories and cultures of the Middle East.
