Research Fellow

Classification: ANU Academic Level B
Salary package: $103,841 – $117,736 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Term: Full time, Fixed term (36 months), January 2023 start date.

Position overview

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.  

The Academic Fellow will undertake research as part of a five-year NHMRC synergy grant – Respecting the Gift – Empowering Indigenous Communities in Genomic Medicine (2022-2026). The successful applicant will lead investigations into Indigenous concerns relating to health equity, communication, informed consent in Genomics and Indigenous methods for effective inclusion in the benefits of genomic medicine and research. Domain 1 on the NHMC Synergy Grant is examining the cultural ethical, social, and legal issues (C+ELSI) relating to Australian Indigenous genomics research and providing a roadmap for Indigenous leadership and inclusion in genomics.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in social sciences, law, ethics or a related discipline; and have existing research and publications ethical and legal issues in genomics, Indigenous health, community engagement in policy, or a related area. You will have the capacity to undertake and lead policy-relevant social science research projects that use both quantitative and qualitative methods. Demonstration of your survey data analysis skills are essential. To excel in this role, you will also be keen to make a difference to policy and public sector reform in Australia.
