Remuneration: Pro-rata of $72,927 – $98,975 pa Level A (plus 17% employer superannuation)

The Opportunity

This position will be reporting directly to the Chief Investigator and made possible by the Australian Research Council Discovery Projects grant DP220102952. Key responsibilities include contributing to the research effort of the University with the aim to improve understanding of social and ethical issues raised by the applications of Artificial Intelligence and robotics in agriculture. Specifically identifying and investigating the social and ethical issues anticipated by key stakeholders, issues raised by the application of AI and robotics, and what industry stakeholders want from the use of AI and robotics and their use in agriculture. 

Some specific responsibilities include: 

  • Conduct of research under limited supervision, or where appropriate, independently, and the production or contribution of conference and seminar papers, and publications from that research
  • Development of a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff
  • Experimental design and operation of advanced laboratory and technical equipment or conduct of advanced research procedures
  • Running dialogue groups and citizens’ juries and analysing the data they produce

The appointee will have a doctoral qualification in Philosophy, in the area of applied ethics, or bioethics, or a closely related field. 

This role is a part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated. Demonstrable expertise in empirical bioethics and/or deliberative methods, or demonstrable capacity to acquire such expertise within 6 months of appointment and familiarity with debates about the ethics of robotics and/or agricultural ethics is highly desirable.
