Research Fellow

Duration: Fixed Term 36 months
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £37,841 – £38,969 per annum
The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EEECS) and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) at Queen’s University Belfast, are currently seeking to appoint to the post of Research Fellow. The successful candidate will be a highly productive, ambitious and collaborative member of an international research team using artificial intelligence and distributed system to privacy-preserving distributed AI models.
We seek a postdoc in AI/Machine Learning to develop federated learning models with neuromorphic architectures, such as spiking neural networks, for robust and privacy-preserving distributed learning. The postdoc will also study threat models, attacks, and defences.
Experience in distributed/federated learning, neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, or adversarial learning is a plus. This is a great opportunity to do cutting-edge research at the intersection of trustworthy AI and distributed systems.
This project is funded by CHIST-ERA, an EU scheme, and led by CSIT in collaboration with EPFL (Switzerland), Sorbonne University (France), and TUBITAK (Turkey). This is a great chance for early career researchers to work together and gain international visibility.
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
• 2:1 Honours degree in Computer Science/Mathematics/Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or related discipline).
• Obtained or be about to receive a PhD in a relevant subject.
Recent relevant research experience including:
• High quality research experience in a related field evidenced by a strong track record of publications in leading journals and conferences.
• Demonstrable programming skills.
• Demonstrable breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
