The Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is recognized as an outstanding leader in the provision of graduate education in occupational science and occupational therapy research and in preparing students to learn and practice the knowledge, attributes and skills of the profession of occupational therapy. We have a highly dedicated team of administrative staff who support students throughout the program. In September 2018, we expanded our program to the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) to meet the growing needs for practicing occupational therapists locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.

The Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab (IATSL) is an internationally renowned research lab in the field of assistive and rehabilitation technologies and intelligent systems to support the health, well-being and participation of older adults and their care partners in their preferred communities. Dr. Rosalie Wang’s research involves understanding the needs of older adults with cognitive impairments in the use of information and communication technologies, the application of robotics in stroke rehabilitation, ethical considerations in the use and implementation of technology such as smart wheelchairs, smart homes, and assistive robotics for older adults, advancing policies and practicesfor equitable access to assistive technologies, and methodologies for the development, evaluation, and implementation of technology-based interventions in rehabilitation.

As Research Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and research related to several related funded projects. Relying on your strong communication and relationship building skills, you will contribute to project planning, research and knowledge translation activities, and you will foster and sustain collaboration with existing and potential collaborators, faculty, staff, students, and other end-users of research.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting and interviewing study participants, and preparing consent forms
  • Conducting literature reviews and contributing to knowledge translation activities (drafting manuscripts, presentations)
  • Drafting and submitting documents to the Research Ethics Board
  • Coding, synthesizing, and formatting qualitative and quantitative data for presentations and research reports
  • Maintaining content on websites and social media platforms
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, faculty, and others regarding project activities

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health or rehabilitation science, health promotion, social science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum one year relevant experience, including experience in research related coordination, study implementation and research ethics submissions
  • Experience supporting research projects, including coordinating research protocols (factors related to data collection, confidentiality, ethics, data security, and informed consent)
  • Experience recruiting and interviewing study participants in a research or clinical context
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Experience coding and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Experience conducting literature reviews, drafting manuscripts and preparing reports
  • Experience providing administrative support to lab members
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, content management systems, social media platforms and interactive meeting applications
  • Working knowledge of reference management programs (e.g., EndNote, RefWorks, ProCite, Covidence)
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written); excellent interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, with demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Strong understanding of qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Affinity for networking andbuilding relationships
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion; and demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of and experience with older adults with cognitive impairments and assistive technology
  • Knowledge of SPSS, NVIVO, SAS

USW Pay Band 08 — $56,514 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $72,271. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
