Position Overview
The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting will be to Principal Investigators of individual projects. Interactions and contacts will be other epilepsy team members including clinical nurses, physicians working in the epilepsy clinic, other research assistants, members of the research team of the Clinical Research Unit, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Centre for Health Informatics, and Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, trainees such as fellows, clinical assistants, and allied health workers, as well as clerical and administrative support staff.
There is opportunity for academic involvement in the form of participation in specific projects and, depending on its extent, preparing and presenting papers at international meetings and authoring papers published in scientific journals.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Review feasibility of protocols
- Develop budgets
- Coordinate and document minutes and action items from local, national, and international research meetings
- Develop informed consent forms
- Prepare the submissions to the Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board (CHREB)
- Assist and prepare applications (as required) for grant proposals to such organizations as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, National Institutes of Health, and Epilepsy Research Foundation
- Complete all necessary training required for Electronic Data Capture and maintain electronic databases
- Develop project plan for each study (Identify tasks and determine who should do them)
- Obtaining Informed Consent
- Recruitment, screening and enrolment of patients
- Communicate with the University’s legal representatives
- Manage multi-center studies. Support and correspond directly with sites as needed
- Help develop, edit, review new study protocols as valued member of the clinical research team
- Other appropriate duties that are part of managing clinical trials such as preparing for and attending Investigator’s Meetings, and teleconferences as required
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a relevant field
- Masters degree in a relevant field an asset
- Minimum 2 years of related research experience preferred
- Experience working in clinical research preferred
- Able to work independently and within a team
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Reliable and confident in challenging situations
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Desire to learn and expand knowledge
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Comfortable learning and using project management tools
- Experience in stakeholder engagement an asset
