Job Summary
The Research Coordinator will work with a large degree of independence under general direction from the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Project Director (PD) on two NIH-funded studies aiming to improve HIV engagement and medication adherence among young people living with HIV (YLWH). In the US, YLWH have the lowest level of virologic suppression compared to older age groups and experience significant health disparities with regard to HIV treatment initiation and clinical outcomes. The studies aim to evaluate “youth-friendly” technology-based interventions which include counseling delivered via video-conferencing, text messaging, a mobile app designed for YLWH, and directly observed therapy conducted via a mobile app.
The Research Coordinator will work with the study team to design and implement data collection procedures and protocols to ensure study goals are met efficiently and with institutional review board compliance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: participant recruitment, enrollment, retention, and incentive payment; creating, cleaning, and managing study databases; preparing reports for UCSF, NIH, and other regulatory agencies; working with the technology team to test and design app functionality; enrolling and training participants on using the technology-based interventions; maintaining regular communication with healthcare providers of research participants; creating and administering Qualtrics surveys for research assessments; and coordinating a Youth Advisory Panel.

Department Description
The Division of Prevention Science (DPS) is based at the Mission Bay campus at 550 16th Street. The division was established within the Department of Medicine in 1991 and is the administrative home of the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS), the Prevention Research Center (PRC), the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (CoE), and the Research Coordinating Center to Reduce Disparities in Multiple Chronic Diseases (RCC-RD-MCD). The division’s research focus is risk behavior and reduction; epidemiology of the virus; evaluation of HIV testing procedures, demographic variables and sexual self-identification; and training for providers who care for HIV AIDS patients. The division is comprised of approximately 45 academics (faculty, specialists, postdocs, and visiting professors) and 50 non-academic staff.
