Research Associate/Research Fellow in Biostatistics and Epidemiology

  • Full time or Part time, 2 year fixed term with possibility of extension

  • Base Salary Level A ($79,784 – $107,516) – Level B ($113,184 – $134,403) + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The School of Public Health are seeking to appoint Research Associate/Research Fellow in Biostatistics and Epidemiology to join our research team. This position will contribute statistical analyses to a range of projects on topics related to chronic kidney disease and solid organ transplantation, at the Centre for Organ Donation Evidence https://organdonationevidence.org.au/ .

The research team conducts health services research through an equity lens, and members have diverse skill sets and come from a range of backgrounds. Projects will include, for example, predicting donation and transplantation outcomes, modelling changes in the epidemiology of morbidity and mortality, using national linked health datasets, and diffusion of new treatment technologies for chronic kidney disease in Australia using national registry data, and on comparing treatment options for people with diabetes and kidney failure in Australia and New Zealand. The role will include work on a several large data linkage projects which have either been achieved or are in process.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work closely with the Professor, Clinical Epidemiologist and Transplant Nephrologist, Biostatistician and the research team
  • apply a variety of statistical methods to project data, including survival analyses, regression modelling, excess mortality modelling, risk prediction modelling and statistical methods for analysing correlated data
  • generate reports for stakeholder meetings, and other dissemination, as well as contribute to academic papers
  • design research projects and either supervise or carry out analysis
  • contribute to writing grant proposals and submissions
  • may supervise postgraduate research students or projects, where appropriate
  • develop productive relationships, collaborations and partnerships with external parties (including research partners, government bodies and industry) which will ultimately contribute to improved outcomes for the profession, industry and/or community

About you

  • Masters or equivalent degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or other quantitative discipline
  • have strong skills in statistical analysis of complex clinical or epidemiological data
  • knowledge of a range of statistical packages (R, Stata, etc)
  • hold previous experience working on linked health data and health service research
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
