New hires are required to provide documentation showing primary vaccination status (that is, completion of two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or one shot of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) before their first day of work. The Department of Linguistics and the Program in American Indian and Indigenous Studies at Cornell University seek a Research Associate to support ongoing research on the language and culture of the Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ people. The successful candidate will have native or near-native command of the Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ language; familiarity with other Haudenosaunee languages is desirable. The candidate will also have deep knowledge of Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ traditional culture, including but not confined to planting practices, traditional calendar, oral history, and music. Duties will include working with faculty and graduate students on research focused on Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ and Iroquoian linguistics, Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ history and culture and community engagement efforts including development of a website for documenting and teaching the Gayogohó꞉nǫʔ language. The appointee will not teach graduate or undergraduate classes, but may be called upon to give an occasional presentation. Appointment will be for one year, beginning on October 1, 2022. The appointee will work under the supervision of John Whitman (Linguistics), Kurt Jordan (Anthropology/AIISP), and Jolene Rickard (Art History/AIISP).
