The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science invites applications for a Research Associate II position. The research will involve collaboration with scientists at The Rosenstiel School and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC), located on Virginia Key.

The incumbent will compile Southeast Region Headboat Survey (SRHS) historical landings, effort and biological data from 1981-2012 and investigate the historical data for inconsistencies, errors, and other anomalies. They will reconcile any differences with historical data in relation to updated data fields and formatting. In addition, they will organize and collate data from data conversions from hard copy to electronic and enter the relevant data into an Oracle database.

The incumbent will assure the accuracy and completeness of those data by cross validating the work of coworkers on the project.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in fisheries biology, marine science, mathematics, environmental science or related fields and at least 2 years of relevant work related experience. Necessary skills include working knowledge of Excel and Google Workplace. Applicants must also have access to a computer, the internet, and possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
