Research Associate (History)

A new Research Associate is being recruited for the project “Tracing Early Trading in Singapore Using Geochemical Fingerprints and Artificial Intelligence on Archeaological Artefacts”. The incumbent is required to assist in the carrying out of research on historical studies of East/Southeast Asian materials, especially approaches to study origin and migrations, complex diseases and anthropological traits in modern and ancient East Asia and Southeast Asia. Research will be carried out in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI). The incumbent will be part of the History Programme, School of Humanities, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. In addition to research, part of the job involves contributing to the development of the research environment through actively participating in the research activities such as doing lab work in collaborating labs and doing fieldwork. Certain administrative tasks related to research activities may be involved.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to assist or lead in the coordination between researchers and student assistants in the research of historical studies on East/Southeast Asian materials

  • Expected to be actively involved in the categorisation and in-depth analysis of relevant historical materials

  • Provide innovative research ideas and initiate research works with current research materials

  • Work independently and work as a team with other Researchers and PI, as well as provide updates and ideas within the research teams

Job Requirements

  • Masters in History, or Cultural heritage related field

  • Experience or knowledge in local heritage studies preferred

  • Prior experience in working on practical outfield data collection

  • Past experience in working with professional research groups is an advantage
