Your Job:

Join a BMBF-funded lighthouse research project to develop new DNP approaches for the operando analysis of battery interfaces and chemistries, and expand fundamental understanding of current battery technologies to achieve next-generation, eco-friendly and safe batteries. This position is located at CARL (Center for Ageing, Reliability and Lifetime Prediction of Electrochemical and Power Electronic Systems), on the RWTH campus in Aachen.

Your tasks in detail:

  • You are involved in the implementation and development of advanced DNP NMR based methods for operando analysis of electrolyte constituents and cell components
  • You will characterize relevant properties of lithium-based cells by complementary methods
  • You will investigate electrolyte/electrode interfaces and interphases and their impact on the overall performance and safety of lithium-based batteries and their chemistry
  • Cooperation with research partners to discuss and evaluate challenges and limitations
  • You will participate in regular project meetings with the involved partners
  • You will contribute to regular progress reports and dissemination of the methodology to interested audiences

Your Profile:

  • Completed Master’s degree and PhD in chemistry or physics, or a comparable field of study
  • Strong background knowledge and documented interest in the fields of (DNP) NMR spectroscopy and electrochemistry, preferably experience in cell assembly
  • Fluent language skills in spoken and written English
  • Strong cooperation and communication skills required for internal and external project partners, including business trips and dissemination events
  • Structured, targeted and highly independent proficient way of working
  • Ability to significantly contribute in an international and interdisciplinary team

Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
