Research Associate – Clean Energy

This Research Associate position involves the design, development, and operation of self-driving labs geared towards the acceleration of materials discovery and optimization for clean energy applications.

Duties:
● Lead design, development, integration, and maintenance of software architecture linking multiple robots, instruments, and remote services such as data processing and AI optimizers.
● Lead design, development, integration, and maintenance of software packages that interface with scientific instrumentation.
● Lead design, development, integration, and maintenance of software packages that interface with and control various robot arms and actuators.
● Delegate, review, and support development of above software packages by junior personnel.
● Operate self-driving labs during experiment campaigns and testing.
● Train researchers in the safe and efficient operation of self-driving labs.
● Design, review, and maintain experiment configuration files for operation of the self-driving labs.
● Consult with staff mechanical, electrical and mechatronic engineers regarding component design and integration.
● Consult with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows regarding experiment design.

Qualifications:
● PhD in materials chemistry or similar field
● Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
● 5 years’ experience developing software for self-driving labs
● 5 years’ experience with Python with demonstrated mastery
● experience with C/C++
● experience with UI/UX
● experience with North Robotics N9 series of robot arms
● experience with 6 DoF robotics
● experience with XRF, XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS techniques
● Strong publication record with respect to self-driving labs and thin-film materials.
