About the role

We are looking for a talented Research Associate to join us working on an exciting project funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Imperial Immunology theme. The Immunology Theme is a component of the Imperial BRC. Our remit is the study chronic immune disorders with a significant health and economic burden due to the potential to cause organ failure, if not recognised early, and the requirement for complex immunosuppression protocols. The theme focuses on diseases relevant to our local population grouped into: (i) antibody-mediated disorders; (ii) thrombo-inflammation; (iii) glomerulonephritis and (iv) renal transplantation. We combine the world-leading immunology and inflammation expertise within our academic Centres for Inflammatory Disease and Haematology with the translational expertise of our multidisciplinary Clinical Centres. This supports our aims: to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis; to fully optimise immunosuppression treatment; and to explore novel therapeutics.

You will be working on research in the field of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a complex autoimmune disease that can cause life-threatening bleeding. There is a lack of prognostic markers to direct treatment, and you will be working on research in the Cooper lab to address this.

What you would be doing

The successful candidate will provide bioinformatic support for the ITP research group. Specifically, they will arrange and analyse T cell receptor sequencing, and 10x single cell sequencing of samples collected at the Imperial College ITP centre. They will also supervise PhD students, and develop novel techniques to interrogate T cell mediated ITP in patients with ITP.

What we are looking for

• You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in haematology or a closely related discipline. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
• You should have experience working in a research environment, and have skills with tissue culture, multicolour flow cytometry of primary cells and expert bioinformatic skills for TCR sequencing and 10x analysis. You should also have knowledge of haematology and immunology, with publications in this field.

Further information

This is a 0.8FTE post for 4 days a week. It is fixed term until 30 November 2027. You will be based at Hammersmith Campus.

• Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £43,003 – £46,297 per annum.
