Cardiff University is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the area of inkjet printing solution-processed compound semiconductor nanocrystals (colloidal quantum dots, colloidal quantum wells etc.) for image sensing applications. The post holder will be located in Cardiff, Wales, UK and work in Dr Bo Hou’s research group at the School of Physics and Astronomy.
This project will focus on inkjet printing pixelated colloidal quantum wells for image sensing applications. The key responsibilities of candidates are to conduct the colloidal quantum dots/quantum wells synthesis and inkjet fabrication of the image sensing devices and integration with the active matrix backplane. This work will also involve a fundamental materials and device analysis and viable integration and image processing technologies.
Candidates with strong research experience and publication track records in colloidal quantum dot/ quantum wells synthesis, inkjet printing and compound semiconductor microelectronics and image sensors, and printable organic electronics are highly recommended to apply for this position.

This role is full time, fixed term until 31st August 2024. This is available from 1st of September 2022.
Salary: £35,333 – £42,155 per annum (Grade 6). It is not expected that an appointment be made above £37,474 per annum (Grade 6.32)

Job Description
Research
⦁ To conduct research within inkjet printing pixelated image sensors based on colloidal quantum wells and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
⦁ To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals
⦁ To attend and or present at conferences/seminars at a local and national level as required
⦁ To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting
⦁ To prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate
⦁ To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field
⦁ To participate in School research activities.
⦁ To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects

⦁ To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education
1. Postgraduate degree at PhD level (or nearing completion / submission) in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2. An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the following research fields:
i. Colloidal quantum dot or quantum wells synthesis such as CdSe, InP, CuInS3, PbS, PbSe etc.
ii. Inkjet printing solution-processed nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications such as organic photodetectors, organic phototransistors, organic TFTs.
iii. Microelectronic engineering and image processing
3. Knowledge of current status of research in specialist field
4. Proven ability to publish in national/international journals / national/international conferences and/or other research outputs
5. Knowledge and understanding of competitive research funding to be able to develop applications to funding bodies

6. Proven ability in effective and persuasive communication
7. Ability to supervise the work of others to focus team efforts and motivate individuals
