Position Focus:

This role includes coordinating and planning data collection and data flow for multi-faceted research projects throughout the lab. This role also involves ensuring compliance with protocols and that all clinical objectives have been met. In addition to these duties, the person in this position is also responsible for the management of the lab as a whole. This includes management of funds, expense reports, spend authorizations for the lab, as well as Dr. Powers’ expense reports; management of lab staff (interns, research assistants, post-docs, post-grads) including onboarding staff, training, management of time, and weekly supervision; development of research protocols and training staff on research protocols; creation and maintenance of relevant websites that pertain to research projects in the lab; development and maintenance databases used in the lab; management of lab events and meetings; organization of all research-related material; and oversight of all research studies conducted in the lab. Some candidates may also wish to write and edit papers to be submitted for peer review, and this is encouraged. Duties include: 1. Responsible for reviewing, planning, and implementing study protocols and assessing the impact of program changes on research quality. 2. Oversees the planning of large studies. Establish goals and objectives, training requirements, productivity goals and financial parameters. Develops forms and questionnaires in REDCap or related software and manages the application of research techniques. 3. Anticipates and oversees potential obstacles in planning for the research protocols to be implemented. 4. Establishes healthy working relationships with principal investigators, collaborators, study coordinators, partnerships, and study sponsors to ensure study progression and that all relevant regulations are being met. 5. Creates IRB submissions and protocol amendments for research. Collaborates with various PIs on major revisions and ensure changes are incorporated at each participating site. 6. Develops operational procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data. Develops and implements relevant data management programs to incorporate data from multiple projects. Designs comprehensive and rational databases. 7. Develops protocols for collection of data. Designs data gathering instruments and related procedures when applicable. Tests, refines and finalizes instruments for use in research study. 8. Ensuring quality of data being collected in the lab. 9. Assisting in upload of data to the NIH databases when applicable. 10. Supervises research through existing staff within the scope of established study protocols, including development of protocols. Adheres to all human subject regulations as defined by Yale University and the Federal government that pertain to research studies. 11. Reconciles and manages budgets for several research projects in conjunction with the business and grants offices. 12. Oversees technical aspects of submission of grants and reporting on their status to funding agencies. 13. Management of staff time off, training requirements, and ensuring responsibilities and duties of staff are being met. 14. Maintenance of lab website and COPE Project website.

Essential Duties

1. Carries out research within the scope of the established study protocol. Adheres to all human subjects regulations as defined by Yale University and the federal government that pertain to research studies. 2. Develops criteria for admission of study subjects based on goals and objectives of project. 3. Determines potential sources of funding and prospective partnerships. 4. Evaluates feasibility of accepting potential projects through analysis of staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and current planned capacity of group. Negotiates contracts and/or changes with funder. 5. Develops original HIC/IRB submissions. Based on knowledge of science and research goals, collaborates with PIs on major revisions and contributes to scientific protocols. Plans and implements changes. 6. Develops forms, questionnaires and the application of research techniques; writes procedures manuals for data collection and coding. 7. Responsible for the documentation and transmission of study data. Ensures that report forms are accurately documented and completed in a timely manner at each site location. 8. Works independently to develop manage and organize multi site studies. Serves as primary coordinator between University, non-Yale collaborators, pharmaceutical companies, HIC, IRB and funding sources. 9. Performs descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data, using computer software. 10. Designs and implements quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data. 11. Contributes in-depth, original thought and relevance to written reports and to the writing of abstracts and manuscripts.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a related discipline and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
