The TEM Staff Scientist is responsible for overall supervision and day-to day operations for the TF-20, T-30 and x-ray instruments housed at the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS), training facility users on safe equipment usage and basic operational techniques; conducting detailed, complex scientific experimentation, functioning as a subject expert or technical consultant on one or more phases of assigned internal or external project(s); responsible for coordinating the development of experimental designs, procedures for experimental data analysis and the application of electron microscopy and spectroscopy methods. assisting internal and external users with the planning, development, and execution of their research projects; acts as a liaison to MSE faculty to support delivery of MSE courses involving the TF-20, T-30, and x-ray equipment assisting with teaching labs, training and supervising users’ microscopy methods and how to operate CEMAS equipment; helps troubleshoot experiments and assists in sample preparation and data interpretation; composes technical reports or journal
articles.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Physics or equivalent
combination of education and experience;
Desired: Master’s Degree in related field

Experience:

2 years of experience in an engineering research capacity; prior experience in post doctoral role or equivalent research capacity; experience with TEM, STEM, EELS, EDX, FIB, SEM, and electron tomography equipment; experience in a
progressively responsible administrative capacity.

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $67,700 to $90,300
