Job Summary
The primary focus of this position will be to assist with data entry for an existing registry maintained in the BC Children s CAPE unit, UBC Department of Psychiatry. The successful incumbent will also help with other all research activities of other ongoing research projects of the lab, including being responsible for recruitment of potential study participants, obtain informed consents and review study documentation for completeness and accuracy to ensure data integrity. The incumbent will assist with the preparation of ethics applications, hospital operational approvals and follow up on post-approval activities as required as well as submit study expense invoices for payment. The research assistant will participate in research meetings and provides weekly updates to the supervising faculty as well as the team.
Organizational Status
The Research Assistant will be supervised by and report to Dr. Ali Eslami, in the UBC Department of Psychiatry. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Eslami and the larger team of Co-Investigators.
Work Performed
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Register the data in the existing REDCap database

  • Recruitment of potential participants, including performing phone screens to determine eligibility, explaining all aspects of the study, and obtaining informed consent

  • Assists with data entry, data collection and data management in accordance with existing data management protocols

  • Reviews study documentation (e.g online questionnaires) for completeness and accuracy

  • Assists with preparation and renewal of UBC ethics application, hospital operational approval, and post-approval activities, as needed

  • Prepares and submits invoices for study expenses, such as participant honoraria and study materials

  • Provides weekly updates to the two supervising faculty and meets with the Research Coordinator on a weekly basis

  • Participates in research meetings and provide study updates to the team

  • Assists with other general research duties as required

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Assistant is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner and with adherence to the Tri-Council Policy Statement concerning Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. Any procedures or data recorded as part of this research must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed.
Supervision Received
Most aspects of work will be done independently, while other aspects will be done under the supervision of the team members listed above.
Supervision Given
N/A but there may be an opportunity to supervise volunteers, as time permits.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health sciences research experience preferred.

  • Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail.

  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Good computer skills with basic programs or social media outlets (Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, Keyhole etc.)

  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

  • Experience with REDCap is an asset.

  • Experience with other data management systems is an asset.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Reliable and able to exercise initiative and independence.
