Research Assistant – Serology

We are seeking Research Assistants to join the Serology team working in a high throughput screening lab. You will be responsible for the routine screening and continued development of the SARS-CoV-2 serology platforms at the John Radcliffe and at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics. You will be a highly organised and productive member of a nationally important screening team, responsible for developing and maintaining strict procedural protocols and working closely as part of the wider team. You will report on a day-to-day basis to the Laboratory Manager and work together with the rest of the Serology and wider team. Your main responsibility will be day-to-day operation of integrated liquid handling platforms for serum arraying at the John Radcliffe site, and routine screening of the SARS-Cov-2 ELISA assay at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics site as part of the Serology team. Your work pattern will be flexible office hours, and may require a weekly rotating shift pattern. Your work will be carried out to a very high degree of accuracy.

You will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the platforms and assist with the optimisation and refinement of the SARS-CoV-2 ELISA assays to best measure antibody response to the new variants of SARS-CoV-2. This will entail working a shift pattern of 12 hour shifts, 4 days on 4 days off on a rolling basis and to include weekends to ensure 7 days a week operation.

These posts are crucial to the success of this ground-breaking project and is an opportunity to develop a new and innovative approach to national infectious diseases research.

You will hold a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in biological sciences or related discipline with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. You will be a problem solver with the ability to work flexibly and have strong communication skills.

The post is full time and fixed-term up to 31 March 2023 with the possibility of extension.
