The Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and Andrus Gerontology center are multidisciplinary in their research and curriculum goals. This recruiting effort seeks candidates from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including graduates in disciplines and professions such as epidemiology, neuropsychology, and health services. Additionally, opportunities are available for joint appointments with academic units across the USC Campus. Cluster hires in areas of interest are possible.

The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Assistant Professor to join the Cohen Lab. This is an opportunity for a reliable and self-motivated person to participate in cutting-edge aging research and help enhance it in the post-genomic era.

The person will be involved in interacting directly with the other research teams in the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and external collaborators to establish project goals, which the team can efficiently execute. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with members of research teams are essential to the success of the individual in this position. The research will focus on Mitochondrial-derived microproteins, aging-induced skeletal muscle disorders, physical fitness- and exercise performance-related genetics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the implementation of foundation-funded research projects and working with the research team and subject matter experts to link and analyze outcomes related to the research of Medicine and Science in Sports. 
  • Writing manuscripts, technical reports, brief reports, and research papers for publication in conjunction with the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators regarding the research project. Presenting findings at conferences, colloquia, and relevant stakeholder meetings. 
  • Contributing to the documentation and update of study procedures. Coordinating design, revision, approval, and production of analytic datasets related to the research projects. 
  • Staying current with pertinent literature and developments in the field. 
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Desired qualifications:

Prospective candidates should have a demonstrated capacity to conduct leading-edge research in the study of aging, mitochondria, and sports science, and must have successfully completed a Postdoctoral appointment. In addition, we are looking for someone who has successfully contributed to the publishing of research in journals. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required, preferably in the field of Gerontology or Sports Medicine with at least 3+ years of experience in the field.
