Project Title: Research Assistant in LIFE@NIE Values and Ethics (V&E)

Project Introduction: This project vacancy for LIFE@NIE V&E is funded by NIE (EPO). In an increasingly complex and diverse landscape, learners who are grounded with a strong moral character and ethical values are better placed to make sound decisions and be active, positive contributors to the well-being of those around them and the larger society. Through carefully designed programmes, research and innovative pedagogies informed by evidence, NIE inculcates and promotes positive values and ethics in educators and learners, empowering them to lead, teach and learn ably and responsibly; seize opportunities for self-directed learning; and embrace an experimenting disposition for solutioning, based on mastery.

Requirements

LIFE@NIE V&E is currently recruiting a highly motivated Research Assistant to look into this strategic growth area.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to lead and co-lead/s of LIFE@NIE V&E in policy thinking and unpacking policies that impact the Research, Teaching and Outreach nexus for the strategic growth area
  • Read extensively, seek advice from experts and expound on how NIE’s research, especially longitudinal studies, can have policy implications
  • Assist with the coordination of LIFE@NIE V&E taskforce meetings and retreats
  • Provide secretariat support for the V&E taskforce, including arranging of meetings, recording notes of meetings, following up on matters arising, when required
  • Produce a synthesis of research in V&E in Education
  • Based on the synthesis, articulate research gaps needed and future research focal areas
  • Work out deliverables and timelines to guide SGA work on V&E
  • Assist in collaborating with internal and external partners
  • Assist in supporting visiting consultants and professors
  • Develop communication avenues with relevant stakeholders that promote SGA works
  • Encourage research projects among NIE faculty
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Skills and qualifications:

  • At least a first-class honours
  • Experience with local social and/or public policy and its implications
  • Experience in public service writing academic/policy papers and/or with local journalist experience
  • Knowledge of local education research-practice-policy nexus
  • Familiar with local educational research
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse workforce

Writing Task

Only applicants who have submitted the following writing task will be considered.

Topic: How does the research literature define values education? What are the key trends observed?  

Task 1:

Provide a 2 page summary (not exceeding 4 pages) of the main trends that emerge from the review of the literature

Task 2:

Provide a summary of about 50 -100 words for 5 key references and studies linked to the assigned topic, and be sure to cite up-to-date studies.
