Research Assistant in the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine

This position is to work with Dr Gabrielle Samuel (King’s College London) and Martin Farley (University College London) on an exciting project aims to develop an environmental sustainability roadmap for ultra-low temperature storage for biobanking. With the assistance of Martin Farley, the post holder will conduct life cycle assessments of the storage options at three biobanking sites in the UK. With the assistance of Gabrielle Samuel, the postholder will present these findings at a stakeholder workshop, during which stakeholders will engage about how environmental impacts associated with biobank storage can be valued alongside other priorities during decision-making. The postholder will write a report of the findings. 

This post will be offered on a part-time (70%FTE) contract for 11.5 months.

• Conduct life cycle assessment of ultra low freezers and liquid nitrogen storage facilities at 3 biobanking sites
• Write up findings in the form of a report
• Assist with the organization two stakeholder workshops designed to discuss the findings of the report
• Modify the report in light of the workshop findings
• Attend regular meetings with the project PI and CI

Essential criteria  

1.       Masters in sociology, bioethics, sustainability, or life cycle assessment analysis 

2.       Interest in sustainability  

3.       Knowledge of the health research and/or biobanking landscape 

Desirable criteria

1.       Ability to conduct life cycle assessments 

2.       Experience conducting workshop 

3.       Experience in qualitative methods
