Research Assistant – Immunology

We are seeking an enthusiastic and academically excellent Graduate Research Assistant to join Associate Professor Oliver Bannard’s “B Cell Biology Group” at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (MRC WIMM). The lab a particular interest in germinal centres – unique structures in which antibodies rapidly “evolve” through iterative random mutagenesis and selection. The successful candidate’s primary role would be to undertake experimental research aimed at understanding the fundamental principles underpinning antibody affinity maturation and the development of humoral immunity. This may involve performing involve performing independent experiments and/or working alongside others in the lab, with some general lab management also required. While extensive prior lab experience is not essential, applicants should know the basics and already be comfortable working independently at the bench. For example, the position might suit someone who has completed a substantial independent undergraduate research project or has held a previous RA position. Training in specific techniques will be provided.

To be considered for this position you should hold a degree (first class or 2:1) in immunology, molecular/cell biology or another relevant area in biological sciences. Excellent organisational skills and good communication and interpersonal skills are also essential
