Position Details

General Statement Dr. Sarah Pennington in the MSU Department of Education is seeking one or more part-time research assistants for the 2022-2023 academic year. This position offers hands-on experience in data analysis and research dissemination with a focus on middle grades education, opportunities for co-author and co-presenter credit, and flexible hours.
We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Duties and Responsibilities Support faculty member in conducting and disseminating research through assistance with data analysis, writing of papers and conference proposals, and data collection.
In this role, the individual will perform advanced and complex research-related tasks such as:

  • Determining viability of data and day-to-day research activities;
  • Collecting and analyzing data;
  • Examining and analyzing research results to determine efficacy of procedures and protocols;
  • Amending experiments as needed to address unusual circumstances or results; and preparing data for publication
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
  • Interest in data analysis and dissemination, academic writing, and/or middle grades education.
  • Self-directed, strong writing skills, and desire to work collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of basic data analysis (descriptive and inferential statistics).
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analyses, including multilevel analyses, factor analyses, and multiple regression.
  • Demonstrated experience writing technical reports, journal articles, and other academic genres.
