Position Summary

The laboratory of Professor Dr. Michael Williams, located at the Grand Rapids Research Center, seeks applicants for a Research Assistant II positionThe focus of this position will be to oversee, coordinate, and conduct research related to the evaluation of new genetically encoded tools (vectors) to map and manipulate neuronal circuits. The position requires maintaining current and accurate electronic records. An ability and willingness to train and supervise others. The successful applicant will join an active research group with complementary areas of expertise, affording the potential for further training opportunities and fruitful collaborations. Continuation in this position depends upon the continued availability of grant support.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; Substantial experience in immunohistochemical / histological procedures, such as perfusion, tissue sectioning, and preparing slides is absolutely required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Stereotaxic procedures to microscopic evaluation of fixed tissues
  • Handling mice
  • Survival procedures such as stereotaxic injections
  • Immunofluorescence and or fluorescent imaging such as confocal microscopy is desirable but is not required.
