Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Assistant position with the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Orthopedics provides support for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in a human motion testing laboratory at our Aldersgate Biomechanics Lab. Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design and testing, data analysis, and manuscript and grant preparation of biomechanical experiments for orthopedics-related projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, biology, chemistry, or related field plus three (3) years of research experience OR
Master’s degree in exercise science, biology, chemistry, or related field plus one (1) year of research experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skills to follow protocols and be able to anticipate and recognize potential problems.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to interact in a collegial manner with supervisors, peers and investigators.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
Discuss hypotheses and objectives with the supervisor, other laboratory personnel, and clinicians.
Determine key variables and primary and alternative methodologies.
Ensure the application of scientific rigor and reproducibility for interpretation, including proper statistical validation.
Serve to achieve broad research goals, including dissemination of findings.
Perform analysis of motion, force plate, and EMG data using Visual3D, Matlab, and Excel. Includes statistical analyses, data presentation and interpretation.
Write manuscripts, assemble data and other figures, and submit for publication.
Prepare posters and slide presentations for scientific conferences and local seminars.
Perform other duties as assigned.
