Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to join the Metal Forming and Materials Modelling Group. The position is funded by industry and the successful applicant will be working on a range of materials and forming techniques for automotive applications.
Our research covers a wide range of areas from theoretical and computational solid mechanics to experimental materials research. There are two main research themes within the group are metal forming technologies and material modelling.
The Metal Forming research focuses on the development of advanced forming processes, which enable high strength and complex geometry engineering components to be formed.
The Material Modelling tackles the fundamental challenges in the distribution and evolution of microstructure and defects as functions of loading, loading rate and temperature, which will enhance our understanding and facilitate the development of innovative forming techniques.
Over the past years, the group has developed several world-class-leading forming technologies and advanced material models, which have been directly implemented in the industrial environment.
Duties and responsibilities
. You will carry out research programmes in metal forming and materials modelling, with particular focus on hot stamping of high strength steels.
· You will work in conjunction with others in the development of novel manufacturing techniques.
· You will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.
Essential requirements
. You should hold a PhD (or equivalent, or near completion of PhD) in mechanical engineering, materials or a closely related discipline for appointment at Research Associate level.
· You have excellent research experience as evidenced by publications.
· Experience in metal forming, mechanical testing, materials modelling and FE simulation is essential.
· Experience in steels research would be advantageous.
· You should be self-motivated and have good technical communication skills.
Further information
This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months in the first instance.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 – £41,388 per annum.
