Job summary

We are offering a unique opportunity to work at the interface between malaria modelling and national malaria programme decision making. We are looking for an outstanding individual to work in a dynamic, inter-disciplinary team using malaria modelling to answer key research questions and develop tools to facilitate national malaria programmes, contributing towards:

Liaison with a national malaria control programme.

Optimising the use of malaria interventions.

Maximising the use of available data.

Focus group driven software tool design.

The project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is part of a wider programme of research on malaria epidemiology and mathematical modelling and will be undertaken within the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis.

Duties and responsibilities

• Identify, develop and implement suitable techniques for the collation and analysis of data
• Work with national malaria control programmes staff and other key stakeholders
• Contribute towards epidemiological data analysis, malaria transmission modelling and software tool development
• Write reports for submission to research sponsors and collaborators
• Attend relevant workshops and conferences and develop contacts and research collaborations within the College and the wider community
• Publish in high quality journals and to present data at national and international meetings

Essential requirements

• A PhD in epidemiology or a similarly quantitative discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience (research associate) OR a first/masters degree, or equivalent, in epidemiology, or a similarly quantitative discipline (research assistant)
• Experience in presenting complex data to a diverse audience and/or developing software tools to do so
• Experience in epidemiological data analysis for infectious diseases
• Experience coding analysis pipelines
• Knowledge of R programming language
• Demonstrated interest in global health

This role is offered on a full time, fixed term basis for 33 months, and you will be based in the St Mary’s Campus.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 – £41,388 per annum.
