Part-time Research Assistant opportunity to work on a novel study to understand the hearing-impaired patients’ journey and interdisciplinary perspective to hearing health.

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: From $76,908 – $87,443 per annum pro-rata (HEW 5) plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type: Fixed term, part-time (0.4 FTE), 3 years

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Role

To provide project management and research support and coordination for a novel study within the Public Health and Policy Pillar of the Macquarie University Hearing agenda, aiming to provide a comprehensive view of the hearing-impaired patients’ journey; and an interdisciplinary perspective to hearing health.

About You

You will have demonstrated data analytics experience, with a sound understanding of the project lifecycle, including project plans, objectives, and documentation. With excellent communication and time management skills, you will be able to work on multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines to support the project team. You take pride in developing effective working relationships using your strong stakeholder management skills.

Macquarie University (MU) Hearing, located within the Australian Hearing Hub, is a global hub of hearing and hearing-related research, education, and engagement, and through the Macquarie University Hearing Strategy 2030 is seeking to transform hearing health. Adopting a university-wide approach and working with partners to create opportunities for all community members to contribute towards advancing the hearing agenda and to reduce the global burden of hearing loss.

The Public Health and Policy Pillar of MU Hearing has the broad primary goal of reducing the social, human and economic impact of adult-onset hearing loss (ARHL). The research within this Pillar includes analyses of data from population health datasets, epidemiological studies, and intervention studies.

MU Hearing is within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS). FMHHS is ambitiously pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking and challenging what’s possible to solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale.

The Faculty’s current education suite includes courses in clinical science, physiotherapy, medicine and public health, psychology, cognitive sciences, linguistics, audiology, and speech pathology. The Faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. We have active research programs in neurosciences, health systems and patient safety research, cancer medicine, and clinical sciences, amongst others.

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science

  • Knowledge of exploratory data analysis and applying AI models to data

  • Knowledge of project management principles within an IT setting

  • Knowledge of human ethics principles related to private data collection

  • Experience in project management, including finances, resources, subcontracts, communications, project reports and stakeholder management

  • Work both independently and as a part of a team

  • Strong expertise in Python (e.g., with numpy and pandas libraries)

  • Experience with big data query engines (e.g., Working with relational databases, graph databases)

  • Experience with code repository management tools such as GitHub

Desirable

  • Work experience in analytics and data science

  • Experience with other programming language e.g., SQL, JavaScript

  • Interests in completing a PhD related to data analytics
