Job Summary

The Research Assistant  will be based at the Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS) at UCSF, an interdisciplinary collection of concerned researchers who share a mission — to improve health and transform healthcare by working across competing interests, collecting evidence, informing policy, and improving practice. The work will be in collaboration with health workforce researchers at Healthforce Center, which prepares health care organizations for success by combining a deep understanding of the issues facing the health care workforce with the leadership skills needed to drive progress. Understanding the dynamics between workforce trends and the leadership skills required to address them is vital to successfully improving the health care landscape.

The Research Analyst will provide research support to the principal investigator (PI). The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with research and development stakeholders, managing research activities and events, providing academic and technical support to the leadership and partner faculty; and generally supporting all programmatic initiatives and activities. The incumbent will collaboratively with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators and an interdisciplinary team in the drafting and submission of publications and other creative activities, as appropriate.  In addition, the incumbent will  prepare, edit and modify documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations and proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Proficient in in time management
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of the health care system in the US and/or health workforce issues
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Qualtrics or other survey package
  • Familiarity with SAS, Stata, or R
  • Experience in qualitative research methods, including developing interview guides, conducting interviews, and completing thematic analysis
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and IRB requirements for research involving human subjects
  • Experience preparing tables, figures, and text that summarize research findings for inclusion in journal articles or reports
  • Experience conducting literature reviews
