Position 

Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) is a research program in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. TREC is a pan-Canadian and international longitudinal health services and knowledge translation program of applied research. It is multi-disciplinary with 30 researchers from 8 universities and 20 core decision makers; it functions in an integrated KT or partnered model. We have long standing relationships with stakeholders, end users, policy makers and our citizen advisory group. TREC maintains a cohort of 60-100 homes depending on the research phase and has a world-class database that has been running continuously for 17 years. The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Senior Project Coordinator based in the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta. They will assist with the activities and day to day operations of various projects, as well the preparation and research for potential grant applications.

Duties 

Participate directly in research projects (70%)

  • Assists in the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data (e.g. focus groups, interviews, surveys)
  • Coordinates data collection by assisting with scheduling data collectors, checking work logs, sending reminders for hour approval
  • Supports team members in publication searches, synthesizing relevant literature, writing background pieces for manuscripts and reports, as well as utilizing EndNote reference manager
  • Interacts and communicates with stakeholders, investigators and team members on regular basis and prepares correspondence such as reports/briefings for different stakeholder groups

Undertake tasks to support productivity across the research team (30%)

  • Schedules/participates in research team meetings and takes minutes/distills action-items
  • Assists in grant submission processes, as well as maintaining detailed records/notes of grant progress
  • Supports team members with their communication and dissemination of project materials
  • Participates in the coordination and preparation of grant proposals, publications, posters, presentations, technical/dissemination reports and briefings
  • Prepares the TREC Newsletter

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Health Sciences or Public Health
  • Research experience in long-term care health research
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment and to multi-task while remaining organized
  • Experience with Qualitative or Quantitative research and analysis
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience with reference programs, such as EndNote
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)&#92
  • Experience with grant applications is considered an asset
