Position Focus:

We are seeking for an outgoing personality who is motivated, enthusiastic, positive, and organized who can work both independently and within a team. The focus of our research is to understand mechanisms of resistance and tolerance to emerging viruses across age groups and we use biology techniques and protocols focused on immunology and virology. This position is focused on supporting research projects and involves light administrative responsibilities related to ordering, lab safety, and animal study protocols. The selected candidate will join a dynamic and exciting research team and this position will allow the candidate to build their laboratory and scientific skills. Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.). Understands and applies basic scientific techniques. Conducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of results. Sets up and prepares routine experiments as directed. Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment. May perform independent literature searches. Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation. Maintains and orders supplies. May monitor hazardous work areas and laboratory safety. Prepares related reports. Work efficiently and collaboratively to assist in research design and research experiments, including plasma and immune cell isolation from blood, whole blood analysis, flow cytometry, ELISA, antibody neutralization assays, viral plaque assays, sequencing, and imaging. Schedule and participate of group meetings. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus. Modifies equipment according to experimental specifications. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/ scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. 3. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus. 4. Formulates and prepares scientific solutions and media. Recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May oversee and instruct research staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 1+ years of hands-on experience working in a biology research lab. Prefer candidates who are available for more than 1 year.
