JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Steady Thermal Aero Research Turbine (START) Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park is seeking a Research Engineer. The successful candidate will assist and lead the development of a turbine test laboratory focused on sustainable propulsion and power generation through interactions with NASA, ARPA-E, the Department of Energy, and the Federal Aviation Administration, as well as numerous industrial sponsors.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with research, including design, testing, and analysis in an existing testing facility.

• Contribute to the development of a new turbine testing facility.

• Install complex instrumentation and test articles.

• Contribute to technical reports, publications, documents, or oral presentations.

• Assist and train students in the test turbine facility.

• Interact closely with a range of sponsors.

Typically requires 5+ years related experience with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline; Master’s Degree preferred. Excellent organization, collaboration, and communication skills are required. Must be able to work effectively, both independently and as a collaborative member of a high functioning team. Must be able to work well with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and others. 

This is a limited-term appointment funded for three years from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding. This position’s working location is fully on-site.
