Research and Development Engineer I – Infrasound

The University of Mississippi’s National Center for Physical Acoustics is seeking a Research and Development Engineer to work with other NCPA staff to develop and design systems used to acquire and analyze infrasound signals and to build, test, and deploy these systems both locally and in remote locations. The candidate must be experienced with techniques to construct, test, and deploy infrasound sensors. Familiarity with computer scripting languages is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is highly desired.

Job Responsibilities (examples of work performed and essential functions):
Work with scientists and other NCPA staff to develop and design unique and state-of-art systems used in the acquisition and analysis of infrasound signals and then to build, test, and deploy these systems both locally and in remote locations.

Minimum Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Minimum requirements for this position are a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or mathematics and two years of relevant experience or a master’s degree that is commensurate with experience. A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is highly desired. This job requires the applicant be experienced with techniques necessary to construct, test, and deploy infrasound sensors including but not limited to low frequency design techniques, low frequency test equipment procedures, and low frequency testing methods and analysis. Experience with coding in C or C++, shell scripting in LINUX, and electronic design is a plus.
