Job Description
This position is primarily dedicated to pre-award management but may include limited post-award functions. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the development, preparation, and submission of sponsored project proposals to various funding agencies. More specifically, a key responsibility of this position involves coordinating the work of teams to develop and write education and workforce development grants, cooperative agreements, and related awards including the development of specific proposal ideas, resources, timelines, assignments and researches funding sources to design and prepare grants, proposals and associated budgets in accordance with grant/sponsor standards and requirements. The position works closely and in conjunction with deans, researchers, and the Director of Research Initiatives, Support, and Engagement (R.I.S.E.) to identify and prioritize grant and proposal opportunities in support of strategic initiatives, objectives and goals.

Essential Duties
- Performs funding searches on a variety of organizations, including federal, state, local, and private foundations, and disseminates information on funding opportunities to researchers.
- For education and workforce development proposals, helps develop proposals by closely working with faculty team lead and college research advancement team to interpret sponsoring agency guidelines and ensure compliance with requirements; coordinates teams responsible for writing and developing grant proposals to ensure timelines and standards are met; consolidates, writes, edits, or rewrites proposal with input from project team; consults with faculty and staff to provide technical advice in the area of proposal presentation and dissemination of information that can be used in the grant proposal revision process; customizes proposal layouts to reflect both guidelines and mission of funding agency to which the grant proposal will be submitted; helps create and produce graphics and charts that support the grant narrative.
- Supports researchers with proposal submissions, which includes the review of funding announcements for eligibility and requirements, development of proposal plan, budget development, proposal generation, overall review to confirm compliance to funding requirements, and facilitates submission with ORSPA.
- Reviews proposals against guidelines before sending to the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration
- Submits applications to Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration for review, signature, and transmittal to sponsor
- Independently responds to and initiates correspondence regarding matters pertaining to assigned functions.
- Assists subrecipients with questions related to completing necessary paperwork, i.e., subrecipient commitment forms
- Prepares and delivers training on pre-award processes to faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students.
- Assists with post-submission action items requested by the sponsor such as Just-In-Time requests, revised budgets, scope of work, additional certifications, current and pending or other support documents, etc.
- Works with the researcher and ORSPA to set-up new award project accounts.
- May assist faculty with limited post-award management duties, which includes mandatory technical and financial reporting to sponsors, project account reconciliation and expense forecasting, and financial document processing.
- Performs other job-related duties as needed by the unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience in writing and editing education or workforce development projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of program evaluation and/or research methods.
- Experience in providing ideas and recommendations to resolve routine issues.
- Experience of supporting a customer group and working with other internal university contacts.
- Experience in effectively responding to complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing university constituencies and navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
- Experience in taking initiative, being diplomatic and pro-active, effectively managing stressful situations
- Experience documenting activities, tracking progress, developing schedules and implementing action plans to meet project and/or team goals
- Ability to prepare detailed documents, proposals, reports, budgets and/or other related materials
- Demonstrated knowledge of budgetary principles, practices and procedures
- Experience in understanding overall unit objectives/goals with ability to work effectively across boundaries
- Experience with analyzing data for identification of trends
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing management of grants and contracts
- Experience in research advancement (i.e., grants management/support) in a higher education setting.
- Experience interpreting funding announcements (requests for proposals) and guidelines from sponsors such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, Department of Defense, and various philanthropic organizations.
- Experience in designing resource tools, materials and presentations for writing proposals.
- Experience in MS Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with ASU systems, including Workday, PeopleSoft, and ERA
Working Environment
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
