This position, Research Advancement Administration, Sr., will collaborate with university professors and researchers in preparing and submitting research proposals. Administrative services provided by Research Advancement Professionals will include budget development, drafting agency-specific documents, interpretation of guidelines and policies, interaction with internal departments, institutional research administration and leadership, and coordination and collaboration with federal agencies. This position is essential in helping researchers further advance scientific knowledge that benefits the public.

Essential Duties

Budget and Proposal Management

  • Prepares budgets, including complex budgets (task-based budgets) and/or sponsor-specific budget forms. Including cost share. 
  • Reviews funding announcements and provides guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements 
  • Assists and completes other sponsor-required forms and reviews for compliance (current and pending support, biosketches) 
  • Contacts sponsors for additional clarification of application guidelines 
  • Reviews proposals against guidelines before sending them to the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration
  • Provides guidance and counsel during proposal development, pre-submission administrative review, document management, and uploading of grant and contract proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies 
  • Independently interprets, verifies, and assesses to ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial compliance requirements. Stays current on compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
  • Submits applications to the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration for review, signature, and transmittal to sponsor 
  • Assists sub-recipients with questions related to completing sub-recipient forms 
  • Completes administrative information according to sponsor guidelines 
  • Completes and routes all internal forms using the information provided by the investigator
  • Assists with post-submission action items requested by the sponsor such as just-in-time requests, revised budgets, the scope of work, additional certifications, etc. 

Administrative

  • Requires strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus.
  • Develop a training program and identify and implement training needs across units.
  • Allocate workload assignments to the team and collaborate with team members to ensure coverage of proposals. 
  • Assists Assistant Director with special projects implemented by the School Director, such as workshops and/or training 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to an extended period of sitting.  Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of a desktop computer, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting to 20 pounds.  Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.  Ability to work both independently and within a complex structured team.  Normally receives no instructions on routine work and general instructions on new assignments with a review of completed tasks.  Exercises judgment within generally defined practices & policies in selecting methods & techniques for obtaining solutions.
