UTHealth Healthcare Transformation Initiatives is hiring a Remote Staff Nurse II (RN) for an exciting opportunity to build a newly formed nursing team within Nurse Triage! The Staff Nurse II (RN) will help take administrative tasks off the critical care nurses and provide support to the community-based clinics by completing one-off tasks such as prescription refills, handling follow-up communications, and triaging clinic messages.
Ideal candidate will need to be proficient in desktop applications, Microsoft and have EMR experience (Epic preferred).
Location/Schedule: Great opportunity to work from home using self-scheduling! Must reside in Texas and be able to travel to the Texas Medical Center in the event of meetings.

Position Summary:
Functions as a member of collaborative interdisciplinary patient care team ensuring safe and comprehensive care. Responsible for coordination and completion for a wide variety of projects and assist in the implementation and monitoring of various healthcare transformation activities.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Support HTI and the practice plan by providing comprehensive nursing expertise in the completion of assigned projects using analysis of electronic data to improve patient care, as well as handling complex problems and identifying patient-care issues needing escalations via comprehensive chart review.
2. Update health information in the medical record, as indicated. Ensure prescription refill requests and lab results are routed to appropriate healthcare providers.
3. Uses critical thinking and nursing judgement to identify potential patient safety concerns requiring immediate assessment and intervention.
4. Uses systematic approach to identify, review and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
5. Completes thorough and accurate documentation.
6. Monitors routine worklist items and handles them within productivity metrics.
7. Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes safe and quality patient care.
8. Acts as a patient and healthcare advocate by maintaining a safe environment and promoting quality healthcare and services.
9. Adheres to broad scope of practice as established by Nurse Practice Act.
10. Communicates in an effective and professional manner with coworkers, department/clinic staff and patients.
11. Participates in training and mentorship of new nursing staff within assigned department.
12. Position may require travel into central location depending on needs of the institution.
13. Ensures compliance with HIPAA guidelines in regard to patient information. Adheres to federal, state and local regulations.
14. Adheres to all university policies, procedures, and standards, including time management, productivity and accuracy of practice.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Current state of Texas Registered Nurse licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and uses typical office equipment
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with two years nursing; OR Associates degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with four years nursing experience.
Minimum Experience:
Varies depending on individual’s education level
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
