REMOTE LEARNING FACILITATOR

Purpose Statement

The job of Remote Learning Facilitator was established for the purpose/s of maintaining the operation of the Remote Learning & Dropout Prevention Program; and facilitating student learning in Apex and Canvas courses; acting as liaison between instructors and students; and troubleshooting technology issues pertaining to Apex and Canvas. 

This job reports to School Principal or Designee.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates scheduling of students with the assistance of the guidance counselor.
  • Instructs students (when necessary) in the use of Apex and Canvas.
  • Enrolls students in Apex and Canvas courses. Ensures that students have user identifications and passwords.
  • Maintains records for distribution of digital equipment (chromebooks, hotspots, etc.) provided by the school to students in need of technology.
  • Monitors student attendance and participation in courses.
  • Communicates with students and or parents weekly, regarding student attendance, progress, and participation. Makes additional contacts as needed.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and conveying information.
  • Maintains data for the SIP and annual ALP reports.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for determining appropriate actions to maintain remote learning.
  • Assists students with securing a tutor for classes.
  • Collaborates with building teachers, HS Apex Lab Facilitators, Apex representatives and other staff when students may require additional help with assignments.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in computer lab, classroom and offices including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in computer lab, classroom and offices including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

ABILITY is required to schedule courses; collate data, use basic, job-related equipment, learn online programs, specifically Apex and Canvas functions. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; setting priorities; and working as part of a team.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines and procedures; providing information and/ or advising students; working without direct supervision on an altered schedule outside of normal school hours.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, and 20% walking. Six hours of the job are performed at the school site and two hours are performed from home. 

Work Hours

10: 00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (WMHA)

5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Home)

Experience: Job related experience is required.

Education: Associate’s degree or 48 Transferable hours
