The Zepler Institute for Photonics and Nanoelectronics (ZIPN) is a world-leading research institute with one of the best academic clean rooms in Europe. The Institute has a significant portfolio of research projects, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), including major programmes such as Airguide Photonics and the Future Photonics Hub.

Airguide Photonics aims to revolutionise fibre optics for applications such as next-generation internet. The Future Photonics Hub works with a network of over 40 companies, representing strategic UK sectors including telecommunications, healthcare, defence and aerospace, to support the rapid commercialisation of innovative photonics manufacturing technologies.

The ZIPN has a dedicated Business Development (BD) team providing a wide range of support services to facilitate partnership and collaboration with external partners, including contracts negotiation, support towards ongoing research programmes and guidance and support around technology commercialisation and export control. In addition, the team plans and delivers communications and marketing strategies so to raise awareness and engagement with research.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team looking for a passionate, motivated and creative Marketing and Communications lead to sit within the ZIPN’s BD team as its Relationship and Research (R&R) Public Relations (PR) Officer. You will work both independently and collaboratively with the wider team and external suppliers, to support the branding, marketing and communications for both the Airguide Photonics and the Future Photonics Hub programme grants, whilst supporting wider ZIPN programmes and initiatives as appropriate.

Along with the marketing and communications focus, you will lead on the development of relevant content and material for distribution and dissemination via websites, reports, presentations, email and social media channels.  

The role will also be responsible for organising events related to key programmes and activities within the ZIPN. All aspects of event organisation will need to be managed including venue booking, branding and communications and stakeholder liaison etc.

About you

You will bring a passion for marketing and communications, demonstrating experience from concept through to delivery, and have a proven record of accomplishment for delivering high quality marketing and communications campaigns. 

You will have exceptional organisational skills, with an eye for detail, able to prioritise well and manage often multiple tasks and deadlines.

You will be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal while also being confident working alongside a variety of colleagues and building relationships. 

You will have a skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 with proven work experience acquired in relevant roles and job-related training. You will be professional, clear thinking and maintain a diligent work ethic in working within the ZIPN Business Development team.
